December 5th Meeting

Hello Mamas! I cannot believe that November is nearly over! I hope everyone had a great weekend with their families.

Looking forward, the stearing team has decided to move our holiday party to our next meeting, Tuesday, December 5th. We will be cancelling our formal meeting on 12/19, however, we are planning an informal get-together that night. This will be discussed at our next meeting to decide on what to do.

This is the plan for our next meeting: MOPS and MOMSnext will be staying together!!
Meal – provided by Jennifer Grant – yummy!!!
Activity – GIFT BASKETS: We’ll be putting together gift baskets for our volunteers, Esther & Dianne, and making cards for the nursery helpers.  If you would like to donate a gift to one or both of the baskets for Esther or Dianne please bring it to the meeting. Esther and Dianne do not get paid to be with our kiddos during our meetings so we like to show our appreciation for them during the holidays and at our MOPS Sunday breakfast in the spring.
WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE: Bring a wrapped gift for our annual white elephant gift exchange. This can be a re-gift, an item you no longer want at home, or a purchased gift $5 or under.

Let me know if you have any questions! I hope to see you all next Tuesday night!
5:45 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland

Welcome Back! Our first meeting

Welcome back, Ladies! Wow what an amazing and busy summer! I enjoyed my summer but boy am I glad to be back to a routine…who’s with me?!

We had our first meeting of the season last week and it was so great to see so many returning faces and SO INCREDIBLY refreshing to see new ones as well!

This year’s theme is “We are the starry eyed” and we are pretty excited about it.  If you missed our meeting, check out this video from #MOPS that decpicts perfectly what we’re in for this year 🙂

At the meeting we handed out magnets for your fridge with the dates for our year – please contact one of the members of the steering team if you did not get one!

We decided to bring back #MomsNext this year in a formal capacity. Natalie Korson and Kim Gordon will be coordinating – thank you for stepping up ladies!  For those that are wondering what #MomsNext is – it is the next step for those Moms that have children older than five years old. The discussions #MomsNext have are geared toward the older children and the stages you will be facing together. The bulk of what we do with #MOPS and #MomsNext will be together (eating and activities) just the discussions will be separate. If you have any questions on whether #MomsNext is right for you, contact Kim or Natalie.

Our next meeting is on October 4 and our meal is being provided by the church 🙂

Flower Fundraiser 2016

Hello Moms! Apparently it’s been a while since I’ve updated the blog and I’m super duper sorry about that! I’ll try to be better! I’ll have to do an update blog with all of the stuff we’ve done in the last 6 months! Lots of photos to share!

We’re doing a new fundraiser this spring in leu of the wreath fundraiser over the holidays. We will be utilizing a local (and fabulous) greenhouse Plantmasters of Suttons Bay. We are selling gift certificates for an 11″ Hanging Baskets Green or White Pot for $25 each.  Once purchased the purchaser or gift recipient can go to Plantmasters of Suttons Bay and pick out their own plant!  Plants may be picked up between the dates of May 1st-15th, 2016 ONLY. These are perfect for Mother’s Day gifts!!

The sale will be going on until the end of April. All money is due to Melissa by April 29th. The mom that sells the most certificates will receive a gift certificate for a MASSAGE (seriously, ladies! YOU WANT THIS!) You may make checks payable to Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Contact any of the steering team with any questions you may have!  Happy Selling!

Here is a link to download the PDF form to keep track of your sales!

Also feel free to download the image below and share it on your social media avenues to sell to a larger crowd!

Giving Back to Single MOMM

Each holiday season, Leland MOPS/MOMSnext participates in a service project for the local Single Moms Ministry.  The Single Mom’s Ministry is a relational ministry that seeks to help single moms acquire a healthy sense of self-awareness, create a wide base of community support, become invested in parenting, strive for economic wellness, and recognize themselves as a contributing member of society.

Every holiday season, Single MOMM puts on a Holiday Party Event for all of the single moms during a time when they are most often forgotten, left out or most vulnerable.  During this event the Mom gets to have a HOT meal served to her (a real treat for any mom, am I right?!) and is pampered while her little one(s) get to “go shopping” for gifts for their mom for Christmas.  These gifts that the children “shop” for are donated or made by volunteers.  We have made gifts for this event for the last few years.  It is really a great time for all involved.

This year, we decided to make Body Scrub for the event.  During one of our meetings in November we banded together and made 48 jars of Sugar Cookie Body Scrub.  The room smelled heavenly and we had many laughs to go around as well!  Here are some photos of that meeting…if you look closely, MomConnie even participated! (The recipe for the scrub is at the bottom of this post!)

The Single Mom’s Ministry is still looking for volunteers for their event in December (below are the volunteers that they are in need of).

They would like help setting up the Santa’s Workshop on Friday, December 12th. If you can’t make it to either one of the events and would still like to help out, you can bring cookies or applesauce to our meeting on Tuesday and Natalie will bring them with her on Friday.

If you can’t make event or will be out-of-town they are still collecting $20-25 gift cards from Kohl’s or Toys R Us (or monetary donations to go toward this).

The event is a 3 hour event from 5-8pm (volunteers need to arrive at 4:30pm to pray) on December 13th at the Church of the Living God (1514 Birmley Road).  Please look at your schedule and talk with friends, fellow small group members and others that might be able to help.  Having enough hands and hearts to safely love on these beautiful children is a biggest need.  Also, those that would welcome our new moms (from 4:30-6:30pm) and help in the kitchen.  Please see below and let them know ASAP if you can help.  They can only pull this off with an army of servants!!

Greatest need:  2 -3 more people in the 3-5 year old class

More Volunteers Needed:

  • 1 more person in the nursery
  • 1 more person in the toddler room
  • 1-2 more people in the 6-8 class
  • 1-2 more people in the 9-11 class
  • 1 more person in the 12 and up boys
  • 2 more people to serve the kids food (4:30-6:30)
  • 2 more people for new mom greater (4:30-6:30)
  • 4-5 women helping in the kitchen
  • 3 folks helping with take down of tables and chairs (8:00-9:00)

All of these jobs are very important.  Please step up if you are at all able.  They get many non-believing moms and kids at this event… it is an awesome time to truly show them the real meaning and reason for this season.  Serve as a family, as a couple, neighbors, or small group.

If you would like to help out, please contact Heather Muha at Heather@singlemomm.org

Sugar Cookie Body Scrubsugarcookiefootscrub-8376blog

Here’s the recipe for the Sugar Cookie Body Scrub that we made for this event.  Find it on Pinterest HERE!

  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbs vanilla extract
  • 1 half pint mason jar (8 OZ Jar)
  • Label (with a sticker back)

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine your brown sugar and white sugar. Whisk them together until they are completely combined.
  2. Add in your olive oil and vanilla extract and mash together with a fork until all of the oil is combined into the sugar mixture.
  3. Pack the mixture down into your mason jar.
  4. To finish, tie a bow around the mouth of the jar (optional). Create your own label and stick it on the front of the jar or on the lid. Now, it is ready for gifting or for immediate use!
